CONSERVATION
10 GOLDEN RULES
|
- Don’t let water waste through dripping taps, leaking tanks and pipes or through faulty ball valves and overflow pipes.
- Don’t wash under a running tap. Put the plug in and fill the wash basin with only enough water to do the job.
- Use a mug of water for cleaning teeth. By running a tap you use four times more water than you need.
- Don’t use the toilet to flush away tissues, gum wrappers or any other small scraps. Every flush takes 9 liters (2 gallons) of water.
- A hose used for car washing uses about 225 litres (50 gallons) in half an hour. Use a bucket instead 9 liters (2 gallons).
- Don’t overfill kettles when boiling water.
- Where possible collect rain water to water the garden.
- Do washing up once daily. It saves water and time.
- Save dirty laundry until you have a full washing machine load.
- A family of two adults and a child uses an estimated 1000 litres (225 gallons) of water daily.
