Operations Stopped at Point Fortin Desalination Plant

The Water and Sewerage Authority (the Authority) advises customers in parts of Point Fortin and La Brea, who are currently experiencing an interruption in their pipe borne water supply that, this is due to the Point Fortin Desalination Plant being out of operation. This followed the failure of a water tank at the Heritage Petroleum, Point Fortin Compound resulting in flooding of the underground electrical cable system at the plant.

Seven Seas Water (Trinidad) Unlimted, which owns and operates the Point Fortin Desalination Plant, is assessing the situation at the plant to determine the duration of the disruption. The Authority will provide a subsequent update when this information becomes available.

The Point Fortin Desalination Plant normally provides the Authority with 5.6 million gallons per day (mgd), which is used to supply Point Fortin and parts of La Brea.
