WASA RESPONSE TO REPORTS ON LANDSLIP AT PLUCK ROAD, SAN FRANCIQUE

The Authority notes recent media reports regarding a landslip at Pluck Road, San Francique that poses a threat to a home in the area.

The area referenced along Pluck Road, San Francique is known to be landslip prone and at this location covers an extended section of roadway.

Land movement over the years on Pluck Road has resulted in frequent ruptures to the Authority's pipeline infrastructure. In addition, our records show a significantly higher reporting of leaks during the rainy season coinciding with increased landslip activity.

To reduce the risk of further damage to its infrastructure the Authority has developed and submitted plans to Ministry of Works and Transport (MOWT) for the relocation of the distribution pipeline in the area of this landslip. To this end, the Authority has been in discussions with MOWT since these works must be done in conjunction with the Ministry’s road rehabilitation plans.

The Authority assures customers along Pluck Road, San Francique that it will continue monitor the area closely to ensure the supply of water to the community and repairs to leaks in the shortest time possible.
